A new Hydrobiidae springsnail, Cachopiella alvaroi gen. nov. spec. nov. is described for Asturias (NW Spain) based on shell morphology, anatomy, and genetic markers. Comparison with closely related species, mainly from northern Spain, confirms its differential status. This new finding adds to an already very rich freshwater snail biodiversity, demonstrating that the Iberian Peninsula is a hotspot for this type of organisms.
