Introduction

On 12–15 January 2026, The International Compositae Alliance (TICA) sponsored a workshop titled Digital Frontiers 2026: Transforming Research and Training in Synantherology at the Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT), Fort Worth Botanic Garden. This event was a hybrid in-person and virtual workshop that brought together leading experts from around the world who work with the largest family of plants on Earth, Compositae (Asteraceae). There were 81 registrants, including 24 in-person and 57 virtual participants, spanning senior, mid-career, and early-career researchers, as well as graduate students (Figs. 1, 2). However, the number of in-person participants dropped to 19 due to some last-minute personal circumstances. Nevertheless, the workshop included representation from across the continents of Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America.
