This paper examines a rare early 17th-century aigrette donated to the Rijksmuseum in 2021. This piece, believed to be of Eastern European origin, is decorated with gold, enamel, gemstones, and pearls, was extensively restored. X-ray computed microtomography (µCT) uncovered details about the construction and previous repairs. The ethical considerations were numerous, and the outcome of the scientific analyses shaped the treatment process, particularly regarding the structural alterations. The findings underscore the value of combining scientific analysis with conservation expertise to respect both the object's history and aesthetic integrity.
