All samples of the genus Plagiochila from the Netherlands, present in the main Dutch institutional herbaria and some private collections have been reexamined. Several specimens turned out to belong to P. porelloides, a species which had been recorded only once before from the Netherlands. Distribution maps are given for both species. They can be distinguished as follows: P. asplenioides: dried plants pale green; stem-length 3-7 cm, stem-width 5-9 mm; cells thin-walled, without trigones; cuticula smooth. P. porelloides: dried plants yellow-green to dark-green; stem-length up to 3 cm, stem-width 2-4 mm; cells with more or less conspicuous trigones, cells of the leaf-border thick-walled; cuticula mamillose.
