Palawan, Philippines: A two-year project was funded by the John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in order to conduct a botanical inventory of Palawan and to implement a Geographic Information System (GIS) which will be used as basis for management and sustainable development of Palawan’s forest resources. The project will be undertaken jointly by the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSDS) and the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), with the cooperation of Palawan State University (PSU), Field Museum (F), and the Philippine National Herbarium (PNH). A new herbarium has been established and will be managed by Ms. E. Gironella, a faculty member of the University.
