On 26 December 1995 Prof. Ishemat Digulian Soerianegara passed away suddenly in Bogor, Indonesia, at the age of 62. He taught dendrology, forest ecology, tropical silviculture and forest tree improvement at the Bogor Agricultural University. He was one of the creators of the Indonesian Selective Felling System (1973) and has laid the foundation for the environmental impact assessment of the Indonesian forestry development programme. From the beginning in 1990, Dr. Ishemat was involved as editor in the PROSEA volumes on Timber trees. The PROSEA cooperators deeply regret his sudden death and will miss him. At the end of 1995, Dr. Salleh Mohd. Nor retired as Director General of FRIM and consequently left as member of the PROSEA Board of Trustees. Dr. Abdul Razak Mohd. Ali, the new Director General, took the seat as member of the PROSEA Board of Trustees as of December 1995. Dr. Salleh has played an important roie in the establishment and development of the PROSEA Foundation.
