For nomenclatural reasons the well-known species of Amanita usually called ‘ Amanita inaurata Secr.’, unfortunately is in need of another name. In the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (ICBN) since the Leningrad edition (Stafleu & al., 1978) Secretan’s ‘Mycographie suisse’ (1833) is mentioned as an example of a work in which the Linnean system of binary nomenclature is not consistently employed. Consequently none of the specific names in this book are validly published, not even those with a single specific epithet like ‘ ‘Amanita inaurata’ (ICBN, Art. 23.6(c)).
