Spore ornamentation and species concept in Syncephalastrum

Persoonia - Molecular Phylogeny and Evolution of Fungi , Volume 12 - Issue 1 p. 81- 85
Morphological studies and mating experiments indicate the synonomy of Syncephalastrum verruculosum and S. racemosum. The ornamentation of the sporangiospores is due to folds of the merosporangial wall. It is highly variable and cannot be used for species delimitation.
