In August 1991 Bupleurum falcatum was found on the Sint Pietersberg near Maastricht in the Dutch province of Limburg; it is likely that the establishment of Bupleurum falcatum here is spontaneous, as can be concluded from the distribution pattern of this species in the surrounding countries, as well as from the habitat of this locality (chalk grassland). Apart from a population in a so-called ‘orchid garden’, where it was (unintentionally) planted out together with the orchids, this species was considered not occurring in the Netherlands. By checking the plant collection of the Rijksherbarium in Leiden, however, it appeared that a specimen of Bupleurum falcatum was present, collected by J. Bloeme in 1965 from a locality at the eastern slope of the Jeker river near Chateau Neercanne; only a few hundred meters from the new site.
