Until 1930, the stonewort Nitella translucens was known from six localities the Southern and Eastern parts of the Netherlands. In the following period (1930—1980) the species disappeared from these localities, but was found to grow profusely on nine new ones, partly in the same areas, but also in the central part of the Netherlands. Particularly large populations occurred in fens. Since 1970 it suffered a serious decline; at present the species appears to have survived on four localities only, mainly in ditches. Data on all known localities, ecology and phytosociology are presented. [Article 3 in this series has been published in Gorteria 18 (1992): 33—39.]
