Of fourteen populations of Molinia caerulea (L.) Moench from a variety of habitats in the Netherlands, the morphological variability was studied. It appeared that most of the recorded characters have a normal statistical distribution and that the ranges of variance overlap one another appreciably. It was impossible to distinguish infraspecific taxa of Molinia; this is in contradiction to the treatment of the species in Flora Neerlandica (JANSEN, 1951). Chromosome counts made of plants of the 14 localities consistently yielded the same number, viz. 2n = 36.
