In the Netherlands, Callitriche truncata was not recognised untill July 1998; untill October of the same year it was found on 27 localities, all situated in SW. Netherlands, typically in “pre-bank” habitats (shallow water areas of up to some tens of meters wide between the stony protection of the bank and the actual bank itself). There are some indications that the species established itself already in 1990. As all material posessed rather long-pedunculate fruits, and such fruits also occur in British, Belgian and Portugese material, we do not recognise “subsp. occidentalis”.
