Carduus crispus occurs in the province of Twente and adjacent Gelderland not only along the Dinkel (Weeda, 1979), but also along the Buurserbeek/Schipbeek, the Berkel/Bolksbeek and the Twentekanaal (fig. 1). The new finds along these rivulets, which flow from Germany, support the opinion that this species reached this part of the Netherlands from that country.
