Knopkroos (Lemna turionifera Landolt) nieuw voor Nederland

Lemna turionifera, een continentale en subatlatische soort, wordt sinds 1992 ook in Nederland waargenomen. Knopkroos kan worden onderscheiden van L. minor door zijn roodachtige kleur, de vorming van echte turionen, en door dunnere, kleinere, meer symmetrische schijfjes met een onopvallende apicale papil. De voorlopige verspreidingskaart laat een concentratie van vondsten zien in het gebied van de grote rivieren. Ook ver daarbuiten is de soort aangetroffen. Lemna turionifera komt voor in basisch, in de zomer opwarmend, voedselrijk maar niet of in geringe mate verontreinigde water, meest in sloten en kanalen. Het kan in alle Lemnetea-associaties voorkomen. Het is mogelijk dat deze neofyt Nederland lang zaam vanuit Oost - of Noord-Europa bereikt heeft en ook rechtstreekse import uit de Verenigde Staten kan niet uitgesloten worden. Lemna turionifera is a continental and subatlantic species. It has been recorded in the Netherlands since 1992. It can be distinguished from L. minor by its reddish colouration, the development of true turions, the shape of the fronds – which are thinner, smaller and more symmetrical –, and the less conspicuous apical papilla. A preliminary assessment of the distribution of L. turionifera shows that records are concentrated around the Rhine and Maase Rivers. The species occurs in stagnant, base-rich, eutrophic water bodies, which are warm in summer and generally not or only moderately polluted. It occurs in all Lemnetea associations. It is a neophyte and may have spread into the Netherlands from eastern or northern Europe, or may have been introduced directly from North America.
