As far as the Netherlands are concerned, Rosa pimpinellifolia has a typically coastal distribution. Formerly, especially in the 19th century, the species had been collected a few times in the interior, but these finds might have been garden-escapes. A recently discovered habitat near Lemele (table 1), however, supports the hypothesis that the species really is indigenous on the sandy soils of the central and eastern part of the country.
