A new species, Sphagneticola annua (Asteraceae: Ecliptinae) is described from the coast of Wetar Island, Indonesia. It differs from the four other species in this genus in having an annual lifeform, and in having disc florets which are apparently functionally staminate, with glabrous corollas. The new species and the two other Asian / Malesian species of Sphagneticola, S. trilobata and S. calendulacea, are illustrated.
