Fluke made, during nearly forty years, a literature survey as a supplement to Aldrich’s catalogue of North American Diptera. In the course of the years the South American species were included as well. In the last years of his life FLUKE (1956—1959) assembled his catalogue of neotropical Syrphidae from the extensive literature survey in his possession. When finishing a study of Fluke’s catalogue I thought it advisable to summarize the results in a publication accessible to all. I hope that the supplementary material and some rectifications will be useful in amplifying the important literature survey given in Fluke’s catalogue.
