Notes on the extinct pigeon from Mauritius, Alectroenas nitidissima (Scopoli, 1786)

The attention is called to the presence in the “Artis-Bibliotheek” of two representations of the extinct Alectroenas nitidissima and the only known description of its voice. Furthermore two pendrawings, found in a ship’s journal dating from 1601—1603 and very probably representing the same species, are reproduced.
