The larva of Ecnomus deceptor is described for the first time and compared with that of E. tenellus, from which it differs by coloration patterns and dimensions. The larvae of both species are otherwise very similar in their morphology and ecology. Both are predators and rather tolerant towards environmental conditions. Therefore, questions arise concerning the relatively limited distribution of E. deceptor, as well as possible competition between Ecnomidae and Polycentropodidae and between sympatric populations of Ecnomus.
