The syntype series of Edessa urus Erichson, 1848 is described and a lectotype designated. The name Edessa urotaurus nom. nov. is proposed for Edessa urus Breddin, 1903. Edessa dentata Dallas, 1851, is a junior synonym of Edessa urus Erichson, 1848.
