Since its original description by Asahina in 1978 no new information has become available on Orthetrum martensi. The species was described based on four males and four females collected at three sites in Kashmir. Study of the original description with additional images of the holotype male and a male and female paratype kept in the Senckenberg Research Institute Frankfurt/Main showed that this species is conspecific with Orthetrum brunneum.
