The names, both common and scientific, given to the damselfly species Calopteryx virgo in Sweden and England in the 18th or early 19th century are discussed. All are somehow linked to royalty, either originating from Carl Linnaeus’ early admiration of the young princess Louisa Ulrika, or from the similarity of the dark-blue wing colour
